Stanley的美国童子军故事

 
美国童子军创建于1910年,至今已有几千个组织,会员几百万人,其宗旨为:帮助青年增长知识,掌握技能,完善自我、家庭以及所在的社区,使之成为有责任感、能自立的公民与未来的领导人。

童子军除了在暑期要组织夏令营活动外,平常还得进行一些军事组织和技能训练。训练的目的是使孩子们将来能成长为一个坚强的男子汉,适应日益激烈的社会竞争。训练科目以急救、救生、发信号、骑自行车、游泳、徒步行走、观察大自然、船艺、手工艺、露营术、森林知识、河流知识、狩猎、钓鱼、获取食物、制造各类器具为主。为激励孩子,在训练中表现突出的将会获得童子军的荣誉勋章,据《今日美国报》近期公布的调查统计显示,在2004年,将近一百万的孩子赢得了两百多万个童子军荣誉勋章,其中孩子们在急救、游泳、自然知识训练项目中获得的勋章最多,分别为9.3、8.3、7.3万个。

友好——童子军是所有人的朋友,是其他童子军的兄弟。应理解他人,尊重与自己有不同想法和习俗的人。

乐观——童子军要关注事情美好的一面。愉悦地完成自己的任务并努力使他人幸福。
节俭——童子军工作以支付其生活开支并帮助他人。储蓄以备将来不时不需。保护并节省自然资源。认真利用好自己的时间和财产。
勇敢——童子军即使要害怕的情况下也要能面对危险。即使在受到嘲笑和威胁时,也有勇气站出来拥护自己认为正确的事物。
清洁——童子军应保持自身的清洁和头脑健康。与志同道合者结交。保持家庭和社区清洁。
敬虔——童子军应对上帝敬虔。忠实地履行其宗教义务。尊重其他的人信仰。

Scout Oath (or Promise)

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law
TRUSTWORTHYA -- A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct. People can depend on him.
LOYAL -- A nScout is true to his family, Scou_t leaders, friends, school, and nation.
ELPFUL -- A Scout is concerned about other people. He does things willingly for others without pay or reward.
FRIENDLY -- A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He seeks to understand others. He respects those with ideas and customs other than his own.
COURTEOUS -- A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows good manners make it easier for people to get along together.
KIND -- A Scout understands there is strength in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be treated. He does not hurt or kill harmless things without reason.
OBEDIENT -- A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobey them.
CHEERFUL -- A Scout looks for the bright side of things. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He tries to make others happy.
THRIFTY -- A Scout works to pay his way and to help others. He saves for unforeseen needs. He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property.
BRAVE -- A Scout can face danger even if he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at or threaten him.
CLEAN -- A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean. He goes around with those who believe in living by
these same ideals. He helps keep his home and community clean.
REVERENT -- A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.
